The Pittsfield Youth Baseball Association was organized in 1981 and
incorporated as a not-for-profit on August 12, 1982 by a group of
individuals who thought that it was important for Pittsfield youth
to play baseball by the same set of rules and guidelines under safe
conditions. PYBA strives to provide the youth of Pittsfield with
baseball, softball and soccer programs not otherwise provided in the
community. Its mission is to instill in the youth of Pittsfield the
ideals of good sportsmanship, loyalty, courage and reverence, so
that they will grow to be good, strong and healthy young men and
women.
Currently PYBA has three fields with 60-foot base paths on Tilton
Hill Road. The property was on loan to PYBA until the William Freese
Family donated it to the organization in 2002. Youth ages 4-16 and
the Pittsfield Middle High School girl’s softball team utilize the
fields. There are four T-ball teams, seven boys baseball teams,
seven girls softball teams, 43 coaches, 12 umpires, 14 score
keepers, two concession stand operators with 40 helpers, and a
grounds crew of three with 12 helpers, all volunteers. There are no
paid staff. Over 200 youth participate in PYBA’s baseball and
softball programs.
A soccer program was added under PYBA’s aegis in 1990. In 2008 that
program organized separately under the name of the Suncook Valley
Soccer Club and became an affiliate of the New Hampshire Soccer
Association. Its objective is to teach teamwork and fair play in the
game of soccer.
The Soccer Club still uses the PYBA facility. It has 15 teams with
approximately 150 youth each year. There are three levels of play,
kindergarten through second grade, third and fourth graders, and
fifth and sixth graders. The 2008 officers are President Rick
Anthony, Vice President Rob Johnson, Treasurer Chuck Corliss,
Secretary Mickey Vien, Director of Field Operations Mark Kubat, and
Members-at-Large, Peter Tuttle and Norm Tuttle. In 2007 there were
approximately 15 volunteers who assisted the program. Current
sponsors are Cindy’s Hair Affair, JNR Auto Repair, Brown
Engineering, Poultry Products, Inc. and Paige Agency. More

In May of 2002 the grounds of PYBA were officially dedicated as
Pittsfield Youth Athletic Park. That same day the original field,
field #1, was dedicated in honor of Lt. John Dunne, Jr. who lost his
life while serving with the United States Navy in 1994. Lt. Dunne
had played baseball at all levels of the PYBA Program.
PYBA receives no financial support from town government. Its
financial base comes from registration fees, team sponsors, the
concession stand, donations, fundraisers, and tournaments. No youth
is rejected if he or she is unable to pay registration fees. PYBA
does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, sex or ethnic
background. In 2008 approximately 200-250 volunteers helped with the
program.
