Major League Grant Awarded to PYBA!

Click Here to Read Full Press Release!

The Pittsfield Youth Baseball Association has just received a grant in the amount of $54,590 from the Baseball Tomorrow Foundation, which is sponsored by Major League Baseball and the Players Association.  It is one of only two granted in the State this year. The grant will support the renovation and enlargement of Pittsfield Youth Athletic Park and provide funding for a silt fence, loam, infield mix, fencing and a backstop. It is the largest project ever undertaken by a not-for-profit in the history of our community, costing approximately $800,000. Nearly all of the money has been raised and the project is well underway.

The PYBA thanks the Baseball Tomorrow Fund for the generous donation. If you like to find out more about the Fund, please click:

THE HISTORY OF PYBA

The Pittsfield Youth Baseball Association was organized in 1981 and incorporated as a not-for-profit on August 12, 1982 by a group of individuals who thought that it was important for Pittsfield youth to play baseball by the same set of rules and guidelines under safe conditions. PYBA strives to provide the youth of Pittsfield with baseball, softball and soccer programs not otherwise provided in the community. Its mission is to instill in the youth of Pittsfield the ideals of good sportsmanship, loyalty, courage and reverence, so that they will grow to be good, strong and healthy young men and women. RENOVATION AND ENLARGEMENT PROJECT

In 2003 PYBA purchased an adjacent piece of property so that a regulation size Babe Ruth Field with 90-foot base paths could be constructed for use by 13-16 year olds. This upgrade has been a dream for many years but the expense and time required to raise such large sums needed have made it impossible to accomplish. Nearly all of the funds that are raised annually go towards upkeep of the present fields and equipment for the more than 300 children who play baseball, softball and soccer there each year.

The three existing fields will be raised about three feet with earth moved from where the fourth field will be constructed. They will be graded so that water will run off of them rather than collect in pools making play difficult and unsafe, as is now the case. More About This Project...
