Knights of Columbus 2008 Soccer Challenge, Alton
Council #7533
All boys and girls ages 10 to 14 are invited to
participate in the local level of competition for the
Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge. The local
competition will be held Saturday, September 27, at 1:00
p.m., at the Alton Elementary School Soccer Field behind
the school. In the event of inclement weather, a rain
date will be announced later.
The Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge is sponsored
annually with winners progressing through local,
district, and state competitions. International
champions are announced by the K of C international
headquarters based in New Haven, CT, on scores from the
state level Competition. All boys and girls 10 to 14
years old are eligible to participate and will compete
in their respective age divisions. All contestants on
local level are recognized for their participation in
the event. Participants are required to furnish proof of
age and written parental consent. For entry forms or

family fraternal service organization with 1.7 million
members in over 13,500 local councils. Last year Nights

Oscar Foss Memorial Library Receives Gift Of Wellness
Books
The Oscar Foss Memorial Library in Center Barnstead is
very pleased to announce a wonderful donation from local
resident Melissa Clark and her Reiki Wellness Center.
The Library was able to purchase several new books and
CDs focusing on Reiki, Meditation, general Well-being
and more. We have You Breathing Easy by Michael Roizen
and Mindfulness For Beginnings by Jon Kabat-Zinn, both
on audio CDs. Several books were purchased including:
The Power Of Now by Eckhart Tolle, I Can Do It by Louise
Hay and Healing and With Whole Foods by Paul Pitchford
to name a few. Come to the library and check out the new
display.
Melissa Clark, Reiki Instructor would like to thank the
many Reiki Practitioners and students who donated Reiki
treatments at the free monthly clinics held in Melissa’s
Barnstead home. A special thanks to Andrew Blackden, Tim
and Autumn Clark of Barnstead, Andre Chevalier of
Pittsfield, Cathy Hillsgrove of Alton and Susan Roman of
Webster.
All donations were voluntary and to go to a community
fund. This year’s funds have gone to the Oscar Foss
Memorial Library and we were able to purchase several
alternative health books. We encourage anyone to give us
suggestions for future purchases to keep the Wellness
books up to date and expansive. Again, our thanks to
Melissa and all who participated in raising the funds
for this projects.
Lakes Region Planning Commission
Transportation Technical Advisory Committee Meeting
There will be a meeting of the Transportation Technical
Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Lakes Region Planning
Commission (LRPC) at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 1,
2008. The meeting will be held at the Humiston Building
located at 103 Main Street, Meredith, NH. The meeting
will focus on revising the scoring criteria used to
evaluate regional transportation priority projects. The
LRPC Transportation TAC encourages all members of the
public who are concerned about any aspect of
transportation to attend and provide their input. For

MVSB Fund Supports Railroad Park Project In Alton
2008 Grant Applications Due By Oct. 1

Park. The committee received a $2,905 grant from the
MVSB Fund to help efforts to restore the historic area.
The Meredith Village Savings Bank Fund has awarded
$2,905 to the Alton Downtown Revitalization Committee to
build handicapped-accessible ramps and platforms at the
Alton B & M Railroad Park.
Now in its fourth year, the project includes
construction of a walking path, a boardwalk through the
wetlands, restoration of a historic railroad freight
building and train caboose, as well as establishing
areas for picnics and music concerts. In 2005, the fund
awarded $2,000 to help fund construction of the wetlands
boardwalk.
The Meredith Village Savings Bank Fund was established
in 1997 and has granted more than a quarter of a million
dollars since its inception. Grants will be awarded
annually. Applications for the next set of grants are
due by October 1, 2008. For more information about the
