Events At Oscar Foss Memorial Library
• An
evening with Brady Carlson Monday, September 23 at 7 pm. We are pleased
to announce that NH Public Radio’s Brady Carlson, host of All Things
Considered, will visit the Oscar Foss Memorial Library to talk about his
work and share entertaining stories. Brady is a frequent guest on NHPR’s
Word of Mouth and The Exchange, and regularly contributes to the Here’s
What’s Awesome segment discussing Internet culture, media and
technology. This is certain to be a fun and memorable evening!

on a Budget Monday, October 21st at 7 pm. Join Chef Liz Barbour for Cooking on a

The Center
Barnstead Christian Church will be hosting a free Men’s Breakfast this
Saturday, August 24th at 7:30 am. Lauro Irizarry will be the speaker
this month, and he will be sharing his testimony. Come, hear how God has
worked in his life through decisions he has made. All men are invited to
come.

Hollow Seniors News

The
Nighthawk Hollow Seniors of Barnstead will meet at 12 noon on Wednesday,
September 4, 2013 at the Barnstead Town Hall. This meeting will feature
at noon, a pot luck luncheon, will be followed by a brief business
meeting, and then Bingo games!
Both men
and women are welcome to join. Dues are $4.00 a year. Come join us and
enjoy our delicious, interesting, entertaining and fun-filled meetings.
Election of
officers will be held in October 2013.

Barnstead
Parks and Recreation is happy to announce the return of the award
winning doo wop and oldies band The Bel Airs to the stage on Saturday,
August 24, 2013 at 6:00 pm. The Bel Airs, named “Best of NH, 2012” by
New Hampshire Magazine, is New England’s premier doo wop and oldies
vocal quintet. The Bel Airs recently won the “2013 Readers’ Choice”
award from the New Hampshire Union Leader, have been featured multiple
times on WMUR TV’s “New Hampshire Chronicle” and have been heard on the
radio from New England to Florida. This is the last show in this year’s
summer concert series. We hope you enjoyed all of the performances. We
look forward to seeing you again next year. As always, smoking and
alcohol are prohibited on the Parade Grounds.

Joan L.
Verrill
Joan L.
Verrill, age 66, of White Oak Road in Center Barnstead, NH, died
peacefully at home on August 14, 2013.
Born
December 20, 1946 in Boston, MA, the daughter of John J. and Elizabeth
T. (Donovan) Kraft, she resided in South Boston for many years and had
resided in Center Barnstead since 1994.
She had
worked as an LPN in the local area.
Joan was a
life endowment member of the NRA, honorary life member of Ducks
Unlimited, as she loved duck hunting with her husband and dog. She was
a member of the Hummel Club and a member of the Center Barnstead
Christian Church, where she loved spending time with her church family.
She is
survived by her husband: Dennis J. Verrill of Center Barnstead; two
sons, Donald Houghtaling of Philadelphia, PA and Glen Houghtaling of
Concord, NH; three grandchildren, Caleb, Chloe and Christian; two
brothers; Gregory Kraft of Kingston, MA and Timothy Kraft of Center
Barnstead; several nieces and nephews.
If desired,
memorial donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer
Society.
