who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology during
commencement ceremonies on May 22, 2016 at the University of Vermont.
The “Gathering on the Green” will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016, 9
a.m. to 3 p.m., on the Barnstead Parade Church grounds. Join us

Please join Barnstead Parks and Recreation in welcoming Aches & Pains to
the concert stage on Saturday, July 2. A classic rock band
featuring self-described “old guys and one cute guy” from the Barnstead
area: Ray Maher, Rick Blair, John Chappell, Sam Darrell, Gunnar
Stohlberg and James Hill (The Singing Kayak Guy). An evening with
these guys promises to be an evening of fun. This free show starts at
6:00 pm at the Barnstead Parade grounds. Bring your friends and family,
and a lawn chair or blanket. As always, smoking and alcohol are
prohibited on the parade grounds. Come kick off the Fourth of July
weekend with this fun show!

Pancake Breakfast
Free Community Pancake Breakfast at Center Barnstead Christian Church
every Saturday from 8:00 to 9:30 AM. We will have free
pancakes, syrup, sausage, coffee and juice. Plus, we will have
something fun for the kids to do. July 2nd there will be face
painting. July 9th will be hot rods and cookie decorating.
July 16th will be make your own pool noodle boats and race them.
Come by and enjoy some free breakfast and fun activities! Center
Barnstead Christian Church is located on Route 126, next to the Town

Firefighters Association 5K Road Race/Fun Walk
The Barnstead Firefighters Association is
pleased to announce its 5th annual 5K Road Race and Fun Walk to start at
the Barnstead Parade grounds on August 20 at 9am.
The course is an “out and back” that follows the Suncook River from the
Parade to the intersection with Rt. 126 and then returns to the Parade
along the same route for the Finish. The race course is USATF
certified for accuracy and is considered flat and fast.
Refreshments will follow the race along with a Fun Race for the Kids.
Pre-registration is $20 and must be received by August 15, 2016.

Free Cemetery
Preservation Workshop
Interested in that old cemetery that abuts
your property? Then this might be for you!
The Barnstead Historical Society, with support
of the Trustees of the Trust Fund, is sponsoring a free Cemetery
Preservation Workshop. On July 9 at 9am, volunteers from the New
Hampshire Old Graveyard Association will demonstrate techniques for
cleaning old stones, different epoxies that are safe to use on a variety
of stones (talc, soap stone, granite), and the proper way to straighten
and align crooked stones, Join us at the Center Cemetery, located behind
the Fire Station and Town Hall. Attendees are asked to bring nylon
brushes (no metal as this will permanently damage stones), gloves and
shovels.

Oscar Foss Memorial Library News
Teen Advisory Group
Join Lindsey at the Oscar Foss Memorial
Library on Thursday, June 23rd at 7pm for the first Teen Advisory Group
Meeting. This meeting will include information about volunteering for
our Summer Reading Program. Participants can bring a t-shirt to decorate
for their summer reading volunteering hours. The Teen Advisory Group is
a chance for teens to be more involved in the development of library
programs and our YA collections. Teens can also receive credit for
community service hours. The group will meet at the library at 7pm the
4th Thursday of every month.
The Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Oscar Foss Memorial Library
meet at the library on the third Monday of each month at 7pm.
Individuals can join the Friends of Oscar Foss Memorial Library at any
meeting or by picking up a brochure at the library. The membership fee
is $5.00 per person.

our other programs or events. There is always something happening at the
Oscar Foss Memorial Library! Library hours are Mondays from 2 to 8 p.m.,

2016 Lakes Region Softball League Minors
Champions
Congratulations to the Barnstead Bears, the 2016 Lakes Region Softball
League Minors Champions. Barnstead went 9-0 on the season and 4-1
in the playoffs and took home the championship on Tuesday, June 21st, by
a score of 9-8 in a hard fought game against Pittsfield.
The Championship Game started off strong with a lead off home run from
Barnstead’s Ella Smith. Grace Brooks had a great day at the plate
scoring two runs, while Avery Thoroughgood and Tori Christie also added
to the scoring with a run each.
Barnstead was led by great pitching and fielding in the game, with Gwen
Christie starting the game strong for the Bears and Erin Rawnsley
pitching Barnstead to victory. Sarah White and Aijah Thoroughgood
led Barnstead’s defense with several put outs in the field and Reese
Burke was a wall behind the plate at catcher. Hannah Chmiel played
some stellar defense in the outfield and Barnstead also received
contributions from Alexis Wilson, Abby Grillo-Moore, Becca Hopkins, and
Charlie Nourse.
Barnstead is led by Head Coach James Christie
and Assistant Coaches Shawn White and Jon Brooks with Tanya Wilson as
the scorekeeper.
A special thank you to all of the friends and
parents that came out to cheer on this team and to the Barnstead
community for all of the support.
