The Money Man by H. W. Brands, Gomorrah – Organized Crime by Robert
Saviano, The Slave Ship by Marcus Rediker, and Savage Kingdom

Chichester Grange
Chichester Grange met on December 16 upstairs in the
Grange Hall. It was a joint meeting with Suncook Valley Pomona Grange who
had been snowed out on the previous Wednesday. There were fourteen
Chichester members, thirteen Pomona members, and one guest. Attendance was
taken and minutes of the previous meeting were read for both groups. Also,
programs for the 2010 meetings of both Granges were handed out.
Plates of
Christmas cookies were given to Chichester members who have belonged to
Grange for fifty years or more. Cookies will be delivered to eligible
members in the area who were unable to attend the meeting. Fifty year
members living farther away will receive a Christmas card signed by those
present at the meeting.
Chichester Grange took up a collection for Heifer
International to be added to the money raised by recycling aluminum cans
during 2009. The resulting $240 was spent to send tree seedlings, a llama,
and a flock of chicks to families in third world countries with ten dollars
left over to be applied where it would do the most good.
Suncook Valley
Pomona Grange approved their budget for 2010 and voted to send a monetary
donation to the Salvation Army. Cleaning supplies donated by Pomona members
were divided between the Chichester and Loudon Town Pantries.
Paul Davis
installed Mary West as Lady Assistant Steward of Suncook Valley Pomona
Grange, Bette Bogdan as Pomona of Chichester Grange, and Hannah West as a
member of the Executive Committee of Chichester Grange.
The Christmas
Progam was a joint effort by Hannah West and Rhoda Davis. It consisted of
seasonal poems, Christmas carols and their stories, and a game of Christmas
Bingo won by Walter Sanborn. The evening ended with refreshments provided by
Shirley Waters.
The next meeting of Chichester Grange will be on January
20. It will begin with a Soup Supper at 6 p.m. Suncook Valley Pomona will
meet again on March 10 for a field trip to Journey’s End Maple Farm in
Pittsfield.
Chichester Library Receives Grant
On Friday, Dec. 18, Duncan McDougall, from CLIF, presented the books to the
children at Chichester Central School. He delighted us all with his
presentation and description of the books and the magic of good stories.
The Chichester Town Library is very excited to announce that we received
a grant from The Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLIF) for $2000 worth of
beautiful children’s books.
CLIF is a no-profit organization whose
mission is to nurture a love of reading and writing among children throughout
New Hampshire and Vermont. Autodsk, Inc a software company very generously
sponsored the entire grant.
