A Big Red, White & Blue Thank
You!
The Gilmanton 4th of July Association (G4JA-
www.geocities.com/gilmanton4thofjuly) couldnąt have asked for a
better day AND evening to celebrate the fourth in Gilmanton. The
weather was superb and everyone came out in droves to join in the
fun.

The parade was the largest ever and there were
spectators lining the entire parade route. Parade winners, as
recognized by our Judges, were:
Best Decorated Kids Bike: 1st Place-Brady Clark,
2nd Place-Beck McClean, 3rd Place-Kyla Mercier.
Funniest: Family Entertainment Radio Kristi & Joe
Laurendeau of Gilmanton.
Most Original: Pinewood Derby Cub Scout Pack 242,
Gilmanton Iron Works.
Most Beautiful: The Granite State Boy Scout Troop
242, Gilmanton Iron Works.
Best of Show/Antique Car: Thunderbird hardtop
owned by Bill & Lois Porter, Franklin.
Judge's Choice: Thomas W. Smithers III, Chain
Driven Antique Truck, Gilmanton.
For 2009: The parade route may change slightly as
per a recommendation by Gilmanton's Chief of Police. The Parade may
turn down and end onto Meadow Pond Road. This would provide ample
parking for parade participant loading back up into their vehicles
and ultimately have Route 140 blocked for less time. The
Association, in cooperation with the Town of Gilmanton, will further
discuss and a final decision will be announced.
It was Gilmanton's largest fireworks show ever
and Wendell Beck of American Thunder stated that he and his staff
thought it was the best show they had ever displayed! The crowd
obviously agreed according to overheard exclamations post fireworks.
Thanks to Gilmanton Youth Organization (GYO) for
fabulous food at the parade/fireworks and for the Crystal Lake beach
clean up the next morning (thanks to Rich Hillsgrove and family)!

course fireworks for 2009!
Unwanted Medicine Collection

Gilmanton residents are invited to bring their
unwanted prescription medications to a special collection event on
Saturday, July 26 from 8 a.m. to noon. A pharmacist and police
officer will supervise the collection at the Gilford Town Hall, 47
Cherry Valley Road. This service is being provided FREE of charge.
No collected meds are reused or resold. These meds are sent for
secure incineration with the remaining ash going to an EPA approved
depository.
If you have unwanted meds - NEVER flush down the
drain. It leads to drinking water contamination. NEVER give to
someone else, it could kill them. NEVER take meds intended for
someone else. It could kill you. NEVER leave around the home,
Accidental ingestion is a danger to children, guests, and pets.
Keep your environment, your family, your friends
and yourself safe. Gather all those meds, outdated/no longer used

Gilmanton Year-Round Library Open House
The Gilmanton Year-Round Library Association
invites you to an Open House on Saturday, August 2nd from
1-3 p.m. The Library is located on Route 140 across from the
Gilmanton School.
What may look like a typical New Hampshire barn,
in an open field across from the school, is really Gilmanton's first
year-round library. It is an outstanding example of "adaptive reuse"
of an historic structure.
The 18th century barn, which houses
the library, was moved from its North Hampton site in 2004 and
reconstructed. The exterior was completed in 2005 and work on the
interior has now readied the building to welcome visitors. Lighting
and carpeting have been installed, metal stacks erected. Furniture
will be delivered by the end of July.
Bids for this beautiful hooked rug
will be welcomed at a silent auction to support the
Gilmanton Year-Round Library at its open house August 2nd,
1-3 pm. |
Featured will be a silent auction of a
hand-hooked rug donated by Sue Barr, with proceeds going to support
the Library.
Financed entirely from private donations, in-kind
services and donations from area businesses, grants from businesses
and foundations, and a lot of "sweat equity," the library building
is almost complete.
Book donations welcomed. The Association
will welcome book donations on August 9th, 16th,
23rd and 30th, from 9 am to noon. Books that
are not needed for the library's collection will be donated or
recycled. Please, no National Geographics, condensed books or
magazines.
