Join The Celebration!
On December 17, 2007 the Board of Selectmen accepted a
gift of 34 acres of land on Shellcamp Road presented to
the town by Paul Stroud as a memorial to his wife, Ella.
This beautiful parcel of land will forever protect
Shellcamp Pond. In honor of Paul Stroud, and the Stroud
family, the Gilmanton Conservation Commission is hosting
a celebration on Saturday, August 30, at 2 p.m. The
event will begin at the Buzzell Cemetery Parking Area on
Shellcamp Road, where a new sign marking the
conservation easement will be unveiled. We will then go
to the Shellcamp Association Clubhouse on Lakeshore
Drive for refreshments and the opportunity to meet Paul
and his family, and to thank them personally. We very
much hope that you will join us for this event.

electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment.
The apprentice measures, cuts, bends, threads,
assembles, and installs electrical conduit using tools,
splicing wires by stripping insulation from terminal
leads, soldering wires, connecting power cables to
equipment, testing continuity of circuit to ensure
electrical capability and safety, and learning the
electrical codes.
The Plumber’s “on-the-job” training covers but is not
limited to assembling, installing, and repairing pipes,
fittings and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage
systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
Learning how to read blueprints and plans to determine
work required and sequence of installations. Pipe
bending and fittings, valve installations, working with
glass, plastic, steel, brass and welding, in addition to
installing and repairing plumbing fixtures, replacing
washers in leaky faucets, fixing burst pipes and opening
clogged drains.
Nationally, the average length of time it takes to find
employment in these fields is a couple of weeks. The
State average hourly wage for an apprentice is
$9.50-$10.00 per hour. A Journeyman’s average wage is
$20.00 per hour.
