Resolution
WHEREAS: Cancer affects millions of people all over the
world, and the fact that there is a proven correlation between
firefighting and cancer, confirms both the need to eradicate the
terrible disease and, until a cure is found, help alleviate the
suffering of its victims, and
WHEREAS: The American Cancer Society expects about 1,437,180 new
cancers to be diagnosed in the U.S. this year. About 565,650 Americans
are expected to die of cancer, more than 1,500 people a day; and
WHEREAS: Cancer is one of the deadliest diseases of them all, we
need to come together to fight it; that means more of us who haven’t
been affected, need to step up and lead the way. Firefighters speaking
on behalf of our women, wearing their color (pink), standing in front,
showing that they care just by wearing pink; and
WHEREAS: Firefighters normally wear blue shirts 365 days a year, for
three days we can wear pink, and give an image of hope and courage to
those who worry about being alone in their battle for life.
Therefore be it resolved that: The Pittsfield Firefighters
Association recognizes, supports, and encourages their members to
participate in;” Cares Enough to Wear Pink” campaign in honor of our
women who battle cancer. On October 25th, 26th, 27th, we would like all
firefighters to wear pink shirts to show their support for those
battling cancer.

Pittsfield Firefighters Association, the first Fire Department in
New Hampshire to recognize the need for Breast Cancer Awareness. Members
have vowed to wear pink Pittsfield Fire Rescue shirts during the Month
of October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.
