It’s simple, weight loss comes from cutting down on calories,
but no place is it written that it is simple. Most of the things
in life are not simple; lifestyle changes are needed, like
walking, a great form of change for a lot of us, but it burns
calories, and the less we consume, the more we lose. To be a
success, we must change some of our behaviors. Why not join, or
come see a meeting. We meet on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. at the
Undercroft of St. Stephen’s Church on Main Street, Pittsfield.
What are we, TOPS. Why not give us a try, we are a nonprofit
organization.

Not
everyone is able to say, “This flag was flown over the United
States Capitol on June 13th, 2005, at the request of the
Honorable Charles F. Bass, a member of Congress. This flag was
for Robert Feeny Eagle Scout.” Bobby has just recently received
the flag and is very proud of the honor bestowed upon him when
he earned his Rank of Eagle Scout.
He is currently employed
for the summer at Hidden Valley Boy Scout Camp in Gilmanton
where his is involved in many of the outdoor activities. In
September he will return to Plymouth State College where he will
enter his senior year, majoring in English.
Reminder
The Summer Reading Program at Carpenter Library will
end August 15th. Reading sheets need to be returned to the
library by August 27th.
Capital
Toastmasters meets Mondays 6:30-8:00 p.m., at Casey Family
Services, 105 Loudon Road, Concord. Guests always welcome.
Gladys Moore, of Deland, Florida, spent a week recently
with her sister, Audrey Moore and daughter, Bev, at their home
on Tilton Hill. During Balloon Rally weekend, while Gladys was
here, other guests, included her daughter and husband, Aileen
and Douglas Tant of Millbury, MA, her son and wife Kim and Robin
Moore of Lebanon, Maine. Also spending the day were Audrey and
Gladys’ sisters, Nancy Goedecke of Hudson, MA, and their cousin
Bill Raymus and friend Laureen of Norfolk, VA.
Now, are you
thoroughly confused? If so, it’s because sisters Audrey and
Gladys married brothers!

Mind/Flight
Ninth grader Cassidy Kearns was chosen by her
teacher to represent Pittsfield Middle High School during a week
long event at Plymouth State College. The MindFlight program is
an annual event in which students stay in the dorms and attend
classes and outings pertaining to their respective interest.
Cassidy was an enthusiastic member of Ecological Expeditions and
represented her school well. She experienced many firsts like
swimming in a bog, playing under a waterfall after hours of
hiking, getting sucked on by leeches, and photographing Blue
Herons and beavers in a pond, this was all part of her research
of course.
Cassidy spent the latter part of her week on the
computer analyzing her data and answering the question “What
Would Happen if One Element of the Ecosystem Disappeared?” She
had a great week getting the feel of college life and working
together with students she didn’t know. She’d like to thank her
Mom and friends Christianna, Brandon and Clara for purchasing
last minute items in Plymouth that she forgot at home. She also
created a blog and a video that you can view at
http://mindflight.plymouth.edu/2009/ and click on the
lightbulb string. Congratulations Cassidy!
Letter
The Pittsfield Rotary would like to extend its deep
appreciation to the Town of Pittsfield, our Police/Fire/
Ambulance/Public Works Departments, civic organizations, and of
course the citizens of Pittsfield for helping us make the 28th
Pittsfield Rotary Hot Air Balloon Rally one of the most
successful ever! Without your support and patience, we could not
promote and serve our communities with Rotary’s largest
fundraiser.
All of the money raised by Rotary goes back to
our communities to support numerous non-profit groups and
organizations, local community projects, Polio Plus (for the
eradication of Polio worldwide,) an orphanage and school in
India, to name a few. The Rotary motto is “ Service Above
Self.” A special Thanks to all Rotarians who spent countless
hours in the planning, organizing, and involvement in the Rally
and especially all those who volunteered in our success.
Thanks to the anonymous donor of the largest fireworks show in
New England, Telstar, and Bob Depoutot; all of the balloonists
and crews; and all of our sponsors; clean-up crews; for without
them there would be no Rally.
The Rotary Hot Air Balloon
Rally puts the Town of Pittsfield on the map each year,
showcasing our town to NH, New England, and all over the U.S. We
all should be proud of this and Rotary asks for your continued
support.
Sincerely,
Steve Catalano Balloon Rally Chairman, And Rotary Club
President

Summer is a flower
season and, thanks to all of our friends, helpers and
supporters, we can help keep Pittsfield in flowers. Through the
kindness of Bell Brothers, P&M Market, Danis Market, and Moo-Veez
Galore, we can place our “donation cans” in their businesses. We
are grateful for checks we receive from town organizations and
private citizens. Our thanks to Millican Wholesale Nurseries for
their recent donation and to all the people who take time to
offer comments, such as “good work” and “looks nice.” Also,
thanks to the gentleman who gave us our newly repaired garden
plot at the Carroll Street blinker and to Paul Richardson from
Hilltop Design for his input. Have a great summer!
