Letter To The Editor
Concerning the Monitor Letter from Bill Miskoe dated August 16,
Bill would like you to believe he is worried about a tax
increase this year in Pittsfield due to the resignation of our
Town Administrator Leon Kenison.
Bill should look in the mirror. His many years on the Planning
Board have had more of an impact on taxes than any resignation.
The Selectmen are trying to keep the budgets fro spiraling out
of control.
Some would say this is micro managing. I say, do whatever it
takes to give us no tax increase. Most taxpayers can not take
anymore. As far as this Board of Selectmen goes, they are bound
to make mistakes, but give them credit. We finally have a Board
of Selectmen that realizes there is a limit to what the town can
do.
Respectfully,
Dan Schroth

Letter To The Editor
Pittsfield’s Loss with Leon Kenison’s Resignation. It is
maddening and surprising that the Selectboard could have
mismanaged affairs to the point that a professional, hard
working, forward looking town administrator would have resigned.
This is a very good example or why the citizens of Pittsfield
need to consider moving to a Town Manager style of government.
We should have a professional who does not work for the
Selectboard.
Clearly we elect the Selectboard to look out for the best
interests of the town, but very few Selectboard members have had
any previous professional experience in managing a town or even
a very large entity. Leon Kenison’s professional background is
outstanding and we were exceedingly fortunate to have had him
work for us. We are very unlucky to have micro-managing
Selectboard members. If the Selectboard members believe they can
do the job of town administrator as well, or better than Leon
Kenison, they should have applied for the job. I hope the town
will consider hiring a Town Manager in the near future. This
style of town government is not working in a town that hopes to
grow and prosper. Hiring another town administrator like some we
have had in the past will cost the town money because of
mismanagement and decisions that have long term impacts.
Disappointed in Pittsfield,

Officer Justin Swift Joins The Pittsfield Police Department
Officer
Justin Swift recently joined the Pittsfield Police Department
and will soon start Part-time Police Academy course instruction.
Swift says the Pittsfield PD is an “awesome” place to work and
endeavors to help improve an already great community and help
protect those who need protection and safety. Swift enjoys
spending time with his daughter and friends on his down time, as
well as golf, skiing and riding his snowmobile and
motorcycle. When asked what message he would like to send to
Pittsfield residents, he responded, “Think before you act; be
conscientious of others and always treat people as you would
want to be treated.” The Pittsfield Police Department is proud
to have Officer Swift as a part-time police officer.
Northway Financial, Inc. Reports Increase in Earnings and
Significant Growth in Loan Demand
Northway Financial, Inc., parent company of Northway Bank, has
reported a significant improvement in earnings for both the
second quarter and the six-month period ended June 30, 2008,
compared with the same periods in 2007. Bill Woodward,
President and CEO of the Company, commented, “We are pleased
with the improvement in earnings, particularly in light of the
difficulty in the economy and the slowdown in the housing
market. The $1.1 million net income for the quarter was 40%
higher than for the same quarter in 2007, and the $2.1 million
net income for the six-month period was 30% higher than the
comparable period in 2007.”
“Not only are our earnings improving, but our loan demand
continues to be strong,” added Woodward. Compared to a year
ago, Northway has grown over 4%, with assets of approximately
$720 million at the end of June. A major part of this growth is
the result of a $53 million increase in outstanding loans, which
reflects Northway’s strong capability in commercial, real estate
mortgage, and municipal lending. The long-standing policies and
practices of the Bank place heavy emphasis on careful loan
underwriting and the credit-worthiness of borrowers. These
practices have not changed. We believe that the increase in our
loan volume reflects the confidence that our customers have in
our Bank.
Mr. Woodward further commented, “Northway’s management is aware
of the widely-publicized problems encountered by some of the
country’s largest banks, and that Northway’s customers and the
communities it serves can be assured that Northway Bank, as it
has been for many years, continues to be financially sound, with
strong capital levels. Considering recent events, the national
media has reported concerns with respect to FDIC deposit
insurance. The Bank staff is prepared to answer questions from
customers about the application of FDIC deposit insurance rules
to their accounts.”
While remaining alert to changes in the economy, Northway Bank
will continue to be managed locally by its Board of Directors
and management team with the same prudence that has guided it
for over a hundred years. We are a conservatively run New
Hampshire bank that is ever mindful of its responsibilities to
its customers, communities, shareholders and employees. We
haven’t forgotten what counts and we are committed to being the
bank of choice for our customers.

Letter
Dear Area Citizens,
Two years ago, the majority of voters of New Hampshire 2nd
Congressional District sent a Democrat to Washington, DC, who
proclaimed that he would help change the way things were being
done in Washington. He has failed in that task. We need a strong
person to take over from him that will ensure Congress acts for
the people.
That person is Jim Steiner, a graduate of West Point Military
Academy, a father of five; he was appointed by Gov. Steve
Merrill to the State Board of Education. Jim is a man with over
20 years experience of problem solving; he is a man who is
respected for his integrity and an ability to work with others
without sacrificing his standards. Mr. Steiner is now an
attorney that he has been responsible for laws protecting small
business and property owners. You can check Jim out in detail on
his web page at
www.joinjim2008.com.
Mark your calendar and do not forget to vote, and you can be
assured this is one Vet who will vote for Steiner.
